Hot on the heels of their last statistics, Medialets is reporting that the Palm App Catalog has notched up over 1,000,000 downloads since the Pre launched less than twenty days ago. Current estimates suggest that there are around 150,000 Pre handsets in circulation, suggesting that each user has downloaded six to seven applications.

That’s not bad, considering that right now the Pre App Catalog currently has just 30 titles on offer, and launched with a little over half that number. According to Medialets, even on launch day – where 50,000 Pre handsets were sold – 100,000 downloads were recorded. Actual downloads ranged from just 2,400 to 114,000, though there’s no indication of which titles notched up these figures.
“Still comparing at the 1 million mark, the average Palm Pre user had downloaded 26x the number of apps that iPhone users had, and the average app in the App Catalog experienced 16x the number of downloads that apps in the App Store had experienced. Funny how those numbers look so familiar.” Medialets
Palm and Sprint are now no doubt hoping that these figures will draw in more developers to the webOS platform. However that’s not likely to change significantly until Palm become more flexible with their SDK access policies; we’re seeing developers express interest in creating Pre apps, but simply lacking the tools to officially do so.
