This is just a rumor, so I urge you to treat it with a grain of salt – the Palm Pre could cost you less than $200 with a contract.  Apparently, Mobile Review clarified its earlier claim of a $399 Pre by saying that was the phone’s cost without a contract.

According to Mobile Review, the contract cost of a Pre could be between $149 and $199.  If that price point holds true, it could post a real threat to the iPhone – especially at the $149 level, which is $50 less than the iPhone costs with a contract on AT&T Wireless.

It remains to be seen whether or not any of these prices are accurate.  At this time, we’re treating them as rumors and nothing more, at least until we get some kind of confirmation from either Palm or Sprint.
