Cell Phone Plans for the 4 Major Carriers Compared

Now that we know AT&T will carry the Palm Pre and Pixi, and Verizon starts selling today the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, it finally seems like Palm is getting a bigger footprint in the US. But with recent modifications to phone plans on AT&T and Verizon, let’s see how a webOS handset on other carriers will cost you on a monthly basis.

BillShrink wants to help out the masses to get the best price for their hard earned, so let’s see what they came up with (click on the image above to see it bigger). We know the webOS devices are not going to T-Mobile just yet, but the chart still helps to clarify the price for a Pre or Pixi on the other three carriers, so let’s focus on that.

Those of you in the market for a new smartphone — especially a webOS phone — might get a little confused with all the pricing options out there, but don’t fret, the chart above will help you. Sprint definitely wins on nights and weekends since theirs begins at 7pm instead of 9, and also mobile-to-mobile now that you can call any mobile at any time anywhere in the country with out taking minutes from your plan (Verizon and AT&T are in-network only).

On the family plans Sprint also tends to be the cheapest, on top of that, with this carrier you get some extra stuff like free navigation and some TV stations. But there are other factors that you have to consider when buying a new smartphone, for example the new Plus versions of the webOS handsets on Verizon will have more internal storage, and the Pixi on big red comes with WiFi. But the main factor — after checking carefully the chart above — should be the signal quality in the area where the handset will be used the most, that is what you need to decide between Sprint, Verizon, and (soon) AT&T.
