According to sister site SlashGear “there must be something in the water over at Deutsche Bank headquarters, because hardly has the ink dried on their T-Mobile/Orange UK deal but they’re apparently eyeing up US carrier Sprint.” The Telegraph – a UK paper – recently posted that a bid for Sprint could be made “within the next few weeks,” turning the carrier into the second-largest in the US after AT&T.

It is understood – according to the Telegraph – that Deutsche Bank has been examining the possibility of a tie-up with Sprint for more than a year, but serious preparations for a deal began only three months ago. Observers have suggested that it would be easier – and more cost effective – if the two networks integrate when they are upgraded to fourth generation status. So far, nothing has been announced officially, and there is speculation among insiders about combining these two US networks into a single carrier. Unsurprisingly, all involved are declining to comment.
While all this could mean great news for many, – I personally would love Sprint to be a GSM carrier instead of CDMA, but keep the same low prices – others might not be so happy. There are plenty of reasons for people not to be happy, some of them could be the trouble to drop a handset you already pay for, also the service will suffer while the carriers change their network. There are also people who depend on Nextel service for work, although this could be a minor worry, since Sprint has been testing the Q-chat service, which will eventually replace the iDEN technology Nextel uses.
With all this, us, the subscribers and Palm have a win-win situation, if the good relation between Sprint and Palm stays the same. And for us, if the prices don’t go higher, and we get the best of both carriers. Just imagine the possibilities, for starters, those who go over the pond a lot will receive this news with open arms.
