When we first broke the rumor about WebOS bringing emoticons to the Palm Pre, we were not sure if this was true or not. Well, it is true! Although I have notice that not all the recipients receive the emoticons in the same way.

I guess one of the more entertaining features in WebOS 1.1 – besides the new NFL app – is the addition of emoticons. While it would be great to have them as part of a drop-down menu, it’s still relatively easy to add them to your messages. In order to generate them, you have to use text shortcuts.

So far battery life with WebOS 1.1 seems to be about the same on my Pre smartphone. But my Pre feels a little faster now than before, and I really like the option of using emoticons not only in text messages, but also in Google Talk.
