Four Camera Phones Compared Against the Palm Pre

By now most of you know that the Palm Pre has a 3 megapixel camera that works really good, for a phone. There even was a head to head back in July between the iPhone 3Gs and the Pre. The cameras on those two phones were compared by PC World. Now, there’s another comparison, this time is the Pre and four more camera phones.

Digital Life Tech Test Camera Phones

This time Rachel Metz from The Associated Press took five different camera cell phones for a spin. If you check the image above, clockwise, Samsung Memoir, Sony Ericsson C905a, Casio Exilim, Nokia N97, and of course, our beloved Palm Pre. Her favorite of the bunch is the 8-megapixel Samsung Memoir, “which packs an impressive set of camera and phone functions into a slick package”. But she was impress with the Palm Pre and its camera. Metz likes the frill-free camera on the Pre, and said:

But what the Pre shoots, it shoots well. The handset had the least amount of shutter lag of any camera phone I tried, and did a good job of adjusting the brightness of shots in different lighting situations. It generally produced sharp, color-rich photos.

The only thing she liked about the Exilim’s camera was the optical zoom rather than digital zoom. She mentioned that this phone has a water-resistant body, which she tested by dunking the phone in a pitcher of water. Then managed to take photos, though they came out a bit distorted. About the Nokia N97 she said it crams a great digital camera and mess of features into a fairly chunky but still pocketable package. But it has a good 5-megapixel Carl Zeiss lens on the back and extremely bright dual LED flash. The Sony Ericsson C905a produce less blurry images than some other handsets. And she was impressed with the clarity of some photos she took.
