Google Voice Mobile Web Client for iPhone and Palm WebOS

Recently Google released a web client of Google Voice for iPhone and Palm WebOS devices, you can visit m.google.com/voice on your iPhone or webOS handset to check it out. The search giant wants you to experience an app-like access to many of the Google Voice features, like the ability to make calls and send text messages.

Now I’m not saying this isn’t good, but I think it was done more to stick it to Apple than anything else, just check the image above and you can see the “iphone-esque” interface. As far as I know, we have really great third party applications in the App Catalog that take care of our Google Voice account on our webOS devices.

One of those applications is gDial Pro, which by the way is FREE of charge, and I’ve been using it for a long while now. It works great, and did I mention is free? Anyway, it is a good alternative for non-webOS users if you ask me, but it doesn’t have the ability to access your phone’s contacts, only your Gmail contacts with a phone number. We (webOS users) will keep our third party apps to give us easy access to our GVoice account and our phone’s contacts.

And just to clarify any confusion, the way the Google Voice web client works is really easy and simple. Just dial the number (starting with the area code) that you wish to call and press the green call button, the other person will see your GVoice phone number.
