The GSM version of the Palm Pre, using 3G HSPA rather than CDMA EV-DO Rev.A, may be scheduled for launch at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month, if a recently discovered – and since pulled – website is to be believed. The url, palmmwc2009.com, led to a password-protected site; it was registered by Canadian PR agency Mischief Media, who have worked with Palm Canada.
Although nobody was able to access the password-protected site – and it has since been taken down – the presumption is that it signifies an important announcement by Palm at the European show in February. Since Europe has no use for CDMA handsets, that has led many to assume that the UMTS version of the Pre, which Palm have confirmed is definitely coming, will see its debut at the event.
