We’ve just finished up both a long video demo of the Pre – over 25 minutes, which we’re currently editing and processing - but we wanted to share at least one detail from this morning.  Palm aren’t announcing the GSM version of the Pre at Mobile World Congress, but they’ve certainly got GSM handsets here to demo.  The company wouldn’t discuss any details, but we spotted both a Vodafone Spain SIM card in one of the handsets, and Vodafone ES was listed as the active WWAN carrier on another demo device.

Now that’s no confirmation that Palm and Vodafone have signed an agreement for GSM distribution in Europe – after all, it could just be a handful of SIM cards that Palm picked up for the Pre demo units they’ve brought to Barcelona – but given the rumors from last month it’s certainly got us thinking.  Vodafone have been tipped as the official launch carrier, in the UK at least, and despite the carrier denying anything had been settled, their arch-rival O2’s exclusivity deal with Apple and the iPhone 3G does give Vodafone a big motivation for signing up with Palm.

We’re processing video and photos from this morning, and we’ll have more feedback from the 1-on-1 demo too.  There’s a full day of MWC press conferences and meetings ahead, but we’re still really excited about Pre: the work we’ve seen on Synergy, bringing together contacts, calendar and other information from multiple address books and social networks, blows other platforms out of the water.
