I think the launch of the original iPhone is something that many manufactures, including Apple, are going to be trying to match for a while. The iPhone 3G S launches today and sales are expected to be heavy, which is an understatement.

Captain Obvious, otherwise known as InformationWeek, reports that the opening weekend sales for the iPhone are expected to trounce Pre sales. Even Palm noted when the Pre was launching that it was no Apple and didn’t expect that sort of demand for its product.
The Pre was a very successful handset for Sprint and broke opening weekend sales records and Palm is selling all it can make so the device is a success in its own right. It will be interesting to see how well Palm can do with the Pre when it hits the much larger and more respected Verizon network as rumored to happen early next year.
