Irony? Palm Pre Represents cell phones on Bing’s Visual Search

Many of you still remember those first Palm TV commercials for the Pre, right? Well, than you must remember the second Flow TV ad, the one where not just Tamara Hope, but the music and everything else looks and sounds more calm and serene. It was nice I guess, but some people thought it was boring. Anyway, the one thing most people might remember from that TV ad is, that Tamara said; Bing, bing, bing. Well, this time, it would appear, Microsoft has return the favor.

Many have notice on the new feature called “Visual Search” – beta for now – in Microsoft’s new search engine, Bing, that cell phones are represented by the Palm Pre. You see, Bing’s Visual Search gives users a taste of how they can use images to find related images. Search results are based on categories of images that appear in a variety of galleries, such as “cell phones.” Unlike Google Image Search, where you have to know what you’re looking for.

Each option comes with a tile depicting a typical result, like US Politicians are represented by President Barack Obama, or popular TV shows by LOST, or cell phones by the Palm Pre, etc. Now, this might be a coincidence, or maybe these automatically generated images come up according to how popular in each category the item or person is. The thing is, we don’t know for sure, but are happy to see the Pre in the front lines. If you want to check it out, you have to install Silverlight to be able to use this new feature.
