Keep the questions coming, My Pre at CTIA Wireless

We asked you to give us your questions to ask Palm and Sprint next week, and the response has been fantastic! Here’s a list of most of the questions left in our comments. Some questions I will try to answer myself, specifically those about the minute plans for Pre, etc. I didn’t include the obvious “How much and when are we going to see it?” but trust me, that will be one of the first questions we ask.

Is filtering possible for Synergy (i.e. can you have GMail contacts, and log into your Facebook without pulling your Facebook friends list)?

What level of integration will we see between the contacts and the other functions of the phone (i.e. can you tap on a contact and have the address sent over to GPS for driving directions)?
I’m going to say that this will more than likely be a feature. It is on phones as basic as my Samsung Instinct, and the iPhone does it, so I would like to believe that the Pre will be capable of it as well.

What’s the final word on Data Tethering?

Since DataVis is listed as a “partner,” does that mean that Docs 2 Go will be included at launch as it has been with previous Palm OS devices?

Is there/will there be a voice recorder/call recorder application?

Is there an included RSS reader or is this something we’ll have to wait for developers to release?

There were a few different questions about the functionality of the keyboard, and we’ll answer those with some hands on video.

Will the Pre work with the Sprint Phone Contacts Wireless Backup program?

What applications will be ready and available for the Pre at Launch?

Can Synergy be turned off/on if the user doesn’t like it?

Will there be a business card reader for the Palm Pre?

Will the Pre recognize UK dialing conventions from numbers listed on Facebook? Is Synergy going to be able to determine that a UK number requires the country code for the U.S.?

Will there be any notification lights for missed calls, texts, voice mail, etc.?

Will there be a Pre-mium (haha) bundle pack available for purchase that includes the hockey puck (touchstone charger) special back cover, and a regular wall/car charger? And will there be a wireless touchstone cradle for cars?

Does the camera support applications such as a barcode scanner?

When running an application like GPS, will it be possible to minimize the application and utilize another function?
The Pre’s biggest feature over the iPhone is multitasking.  The Pre is capable of running multiple “cards” of programs at the same time, so I’m going to go ahead and say YES, you can have GPS running in the background while you check your email, voicemail, etc.

If someone has a family plan (3 people sharing 1500 minutes) and only one person has the Pre, will the other non-Pre customers have to have unlimited data plans too?
Based on my experience with Sprint, the Data/Messaging/Talk Share plans (which are the sharing plans compatible with the Pre) include the first two lines for that base price, and the additional line for $20, which gets you the unlimited texting and data anyway.  So Yes, I believe that all three lines are going to have unlimited data and texting.

Cloud computing has become a big deal as of late. How does Palm and the Pre intend to take advantage of this direction that computing looks to be heading toward? Will webOS work with MobileMe or MyPhone? Does Palm have something similar in the works?

When will we see the GSM version?

Is there MS Exchange support and if so, will it be more than just OWA?

Can emails be organized into folders?

Can you add personal POP accounts? (I would assume so)

Ok everyone, those are the questions so far. If you have anything else you would like to know/see in our videos, please leave your comments below, and we’ll make sure to ask Palm and Sprint at the CTIA Wireless conference.

Remember, we’re going to be bringing you some great coverage of CTIA, so visit frequently during the week to stay updated on the Palm Pre!
