It would seem like now a days everyone is trying to kill the fun out of personal property. Why do I say that, well, playing with my Palm Pre has led me to discover that Palm has confirmed the infamous “kill switch” in the App Catalog with the new update to webOS 1.2.0.

By now, chances are you already know about the kill switch in Android and the iPhone. Even Microsoft confirmed a kill switch present in the Windows Marketplace for Mobile. According to a Microsoft spokesperson, that would only in fact occur should an application be found to exhibit “harmful behavior or [have] unforseen effects”. And of course who can forget about one of the most infamous cases; The Amazon Kindle kill switch.
And now, horror! The Palm Pre has a kill switch too. When you first open the App Catalog after the webOS update, it will show a “Palm App Catalog End-User Terms & Conditions” page with 2 selections; Accept or Decline. As you can see on the image above – and yes, I took that screenshot today at 4:32 am ET – on number 5 of those conditions you can clearly read about the cursed kill switch.
The last part in the title will be like a bucket of icy water for those who depend on iTunes to sync their Pre. Unfortunately is no joke, but hey, you can always use an alternative, like DoubleTwist, Salling Sync, Drag ‘n Drop, or even The Missing Sync.
