More About the Palm Pixi and Photo Gallery

We promised a photo gallery for the new Palm Pixi, and a photo gallery you’ll get. This time we bring more info on this new and exciting webOS device that Palm recently unveiled. Besides, thanks to Vincent, the pictures look great, good job Vincent.

As you all notice, the Pixi is narrower than the Pre, so the QWERTY keyboard is narrower too. But the buttons are raised a little more than those on the Pre and show marked signs of tactile improvement over the first webOS phone. Palm also dropped the hardware Home button, replacing it with a totally touch-sensitive strip running in-between the display and the keyboard. Like the Pre, the Pixi’s capacitive panel stretches down over the lower edge of the LCD and into this black center strip, and is used for triggering gestures, bringing up the webOS launcher, and other things.

Palm will be showcasing the Pixi with the new and eye-catching Artist Series customizable back covers this week at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York from today September 10th, through the 17th. The Palm Pixi Artist Series, were introduced with the Pixi for those who want to express themselves with some extra style. These covers for the Pixi are designed by artists from California that we never heard of, but they look great nonetheless. And did I mention all these covers and the black stock cover are TouchStone compatible? Well, they are. So far Palm is starting with only five of these limited-edition back covers, they are numbered and signed by the artists. You can see the first collection in the series, as well as information about the artists, at www.palm.com/artistseries.

Unfortunately for many, Palm didn’t say anything on price or release date. Sprint isn’t talking about that either, but many place the Pixi in the $99 mark, and the release date no later than Christmas. Well, what do you think? Will you be buying the Pixi? Or like me, will keep faithful to the Pre. Whichever device you choose, they both run the great Palm webOS, so, just the form factor and a few other things will tip the balance.
