Palm’s new web oriented operating system, Palm webOS, takes all the power of the Windows Mobile OS and combines it with the simplicity you find in a web browser. Palm has now privately “prereleased” the Mojo SDK, which is based on the JavaScript and HTML5 standards that most web developers know very well.
Mojo allows developers to build applications complete with transitions, scrolling, gesture-based navigation as well as the ability to utilize the notification system to alert users without interrupting whatever it is they are currently doing. Developers can also leverage the local storage capabilities of HTML5 so that the data is available even when users are offline.
Development with Mojo also allows you to use JSON-based messages to tap into the wide range of device services that include contacts, calendars and location. Also included in the SDK is an Eclipse-based IDE that gives users the choice of tools used to build webOS applications. Mojo SDK will be publically released later this year for free through the Palm Developer network.
