Palm is certainly looking beyond the exclusive contract with Sprint for its Pre as a means to open the device up to much higher sales volumes with carriers like Verizon looking to offer the handset. Palm is surely trying to sign up more major and minor carriers for the device as well.

BusinessWeek reports that palm is hitting some bumps on the road to selling more Pres. Most notably; Wall Street has reduced its forecasts for Pre sales. Analysts now say that Palm will sell 300,000 to 500,000 Pres the first three months the device is on the market.
Most analysts believe Palm can sell 3.5 million devices before its fiscal year ends next May. Palm is expected to offer Pre sales numbers when it announces its quarterly sales figures. I still say that the sales of the Pre won’t really start until the device is out of its exclusive period with Sprint.
