One of the battles on the hacked smartphone front wages between the developers constantly seeking to unlock the iPhone and Apple constantly fighting to keep its handset locked to the AT&T network. Palm has a much more open attitude towards developers who want to break the Pre away from Sprint.

Palm reports, “We recognize that some developers will experiment in ways that cross official boundaries, but we believe that our formal offerings – and community efforts built around those offerings – will provide the best experience for the vast majority of webOS developers and users.”
That almost seems like a nod to those crying the worst thing about the Pre is Sprint. Hackers with a Pre jailbreak away and use the phone how you like, Palm is OK with it. Sprint on the other hand may not be that happy.
