Rumor has it that the Palm Pre will cost $399 for a 2-year contract on Sprint. This has not been confirmed by Palm or Sprint yet, however. If the $399 price point turns out to be true, what do you think of it? Too high? Is it a steal? I’d love to get your reactions!
We’ll keep you up to date on the validity of this rumor as we get more news.

I think the $400 price tag is a little on the high side but I would probably pay it… It would mean I would wait a while before I buy any apps or accessories though.
I sincerely hope Palm and Sprint don’t make the catastrophic mistake of pricing this out of the average consumer’s range. Don’t get me wrong, this device it well worth the money. But for WebOS (and Palm Inc.) to succeed, they need to grab a fair chunk of the smartphone market, and I just don’t think they’ll be able to do that with a $400 phone (especially when refurbished iPhones are selling for $150 at AT&T). Furthermore, without a large user base there will be less incentive for developers to work on WebOS apps, which will lead to less consumers choosing WebOS devices, and so on…
I think $400 is way too high for Sprint/Palm to charge. In the major markets they will have to deal with AT&T and Verizon who both have comparable devices under $200. If Palm is looking to recap market share, that’s not gonna do it.
Me…I’ll be picking it up, but I don’t have a choice because Sprint is the only major carrier in my area (until Verizon “officially” takes over Alltel).
I think that by the time the Pre arrives, the price will range between $229-$249 with a 2-year contract.
The only danger here is Apple may release an update to the iPhone or even release a second model during the same time frame while retaining the same $199 price.
I agree with the user above me, I think the price will range between $229-$249 with a 2-year contract.
They really need to try and bring that down to $199 with a 2-year contract.
Either was, i’ll be paying full price because I have had my Instinct for less than a year…LOL…
I also believe the $400 price would be way way too high. Perhaps the phone is worth it, but with the iphone at just 199, I think people would be reluctant to spend 400 on a phone, especially nowadays with the current economy. I cannot wait until the pre comes out, and I will be doing everything in my power to get one opening day. But if Palm/Sprint is going to have a hit with this phone it’s going to have to be 200 or at most 250. Please let this be the case….
i agree because i love this phone to death and to make a good a sale you have to lower your strandard price to beat the king of the hill which is the iphone so i hope they make this phone around 200-250 like vincent said or else if you priced it like the touch por and diamond they wont get any sales
