Things are getting mighty confusing in Palm rumor land, as a small, blurry image that the Boy Genius swears blind is legitimate suggests that the second webOS device will be a QWERTY candybar. The image came with no proposed specifications, only the expectation that it would be released in the fall.
According to earlier rumors, Palm is said to be preparing another Pre device running its new webOS platform for release later in 2009. The smartphone, so the leak maintained, will be smaller than the Pre, leading many to assume that it would drop the QWERTY keyboard and make do with an on-screen version.
This new picture – however small and blurred it may be – suggests that instead, Palm have a Centro-style format in mind, with the size reduction made by dropping the slide section and moving the QWERTY to the extended front-panel. In fact the Palm Pre Centro could be a reasonable name for the device, given that Pre 2 suggests it’s a replacement rather than a different model, and Mini-Pre doesn’t take into account the different form-factor.
