Two of the hottest smartphones to launch so far this year have been the iPhone 3GS and the Palm Pre. The two devices launched only weeks apart and have been big sellers for Sprint and AT&T. PC World is pitting them together in a real world death match.

The reviewer says that he was looking for a new smartphone for his personal use and spent two week using both of the devices side by side as any phone user would. The reviewer says that the physical keyboard is one of the best things the Pre has going for it.

The 3GS is noted as being faster than the Pre and the reviewer pointed out many of the same caveats with both devices that other reviews have found. One odd issue the reviewer found with his Pre was that it called 911 without his knowledge and he only realized it had happened when the operator called him back. In the end, the reviewer opted to use the Pre for his everyday phone.
