One of the things I loathe about my original iPhone is the camera. The thing is pretty much useless thanks to its poor quality and abysmal low light performance. The new iPhone 3GS has a better camera though and PC World is compared the camera of the Pre and the 3GS head to head.

The reviewer points out, rightly, that compared to a good camera like an SLR or even a high-quality point and shoot camera phone photos are horrible. The reviewer says that the flash on the Pre make allows it to take better images in low light. I still can’t believe Apple left flash off the 3GS.

The ability to pinch and zoom in on images taken with the Pre is also nice according to the reviewer and allows the user to see good detail. I’m still not running about taking camera phone pics myself, but hopefully someday the cameras in our phones will be good enough to replace that point-and-shoot in my office.
