Biggest news this week has been the legal spat between Palm and Apple, with the latter throwing down the gauntlet – albeit generally – to anybody considered impinging on their smartphone IP, and Palm rising to the challenge with some tough talk of their own. The irony is, Palm wheeled out one of Apple’s own former-PR team to deliver their message. It’s almost enough to overshadow the fact that Palm have poached ex-HTC exec Paul Ghent for their team.
Meanwhile, hardware and software were on the agenda as Cypress Semiconductor were tipped as providing the capacitive touch-panel for the Pre, while more details on the smartphone’s camera, its location-based functionality and its charger emerged. We also found out a little more about webOS – and ended up with more questions – as well as the state of play for dual-booting the Pre with Google’s open-source Android platform.
Of course, we’re also brought another week closer to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where rumor has it that Palm will be announcing the GSM HSPA version of the Pre. Pre Community will be on hand to bring you all the details, so bookmark, subscribe and keep reading!
