The Pre and webOS fronts have been relatively quiet this week. The biggest news was was the re-shuffling of Palm’s Board of Directors. Handspring co-founder Donna Dubinsky, who also previously served as Palm’s CEO, has stepped down from the board voluntarily, reportedly not due to any disagreement. Palm investors Elevation Partners nominated ex-eBay board member Rajiv Dutta to the Palm board four days later.
More rumors of the date for Pre’s release have been speculated on. This time, a March release has been deduced from a Sprint EOL (end-of-life) document detailing which handsets will become unsupported during 2009. The Pre is expected to hit stores (note this does not mean go on-sale) in mid-March, replacing the blue Palm 755p.
Sprint has also announced a new program to reward long-time and big-spending customers. Sprint users who have been with the carrier for 10 years or longer, or have a single-line account $69.99 or multi-line account $99.99 or higher. This program, called Sprint Premier, will offer an exclusive “first-peek” at new and upcoming devices, the Pre among them.
