The Palm Pre world was abuzz this week with new video demos of the new smartphone, surfacing just about everywhere. There are demos of everything from calendar function and the browser to Google Maps in the browser and general synergy between the device’s apps. To top it all off, we’ve got a 26 minute demo of the most Pre functions we’ve seen in one video to date.
Customers anticipating the Pre’s data connectivity were disappointed to see Sprint rework the data/specs sheet this week, as any mention of the ability to “tether” with a notebook – using the Pre as a modem – was removed. Sprint had previously announced that the Pre would be able to pair over Bluetooth with a computer to provide it a connection to Sprint’s high-speed data network.
Finally, the world caught first glimpse of proof that a GSM Pre does exist when PreCommunity’s own Chris Davies was sly enough to ask the Palm rep to remove the battery on video – and saw a Vodafone SIM card! Palm has gone on to say that no agreements have been reached as far as exclusivity in Europe, but this sighting starts to point some fingers.
