Pre is stealing Sprint customers away from Blackberry devices

The Palm Pre has proven to be a successful smartphone for Sprint, depending on which analyst you want to believe. The handset has sold an estimated 300,000 units in the first few weeks it was available. Some analysts say now that the Pre is meeting supply and demand for Sprint.

ZDNet reports that RIM took a hit to sales of its Blackberry devices on the AT&T and Sprint networks during the month that the Pre and the iPhone 3GS launched. According to an analyst from Piper Jaffray, sales for Blackberry devices were down in June.

At Sprint stores, the Pre is taking sales away from the Blackberry Curve and at AT&T the iPhone 3G and 3GS are stealing sales from the several Blackberry devices on the AT&T network. Sales are expected to come back for RIM when the new Blackberry Tour launches.
