Sling Media and numerous other developers making Apps for Pre

In a photo published by Engadget, we see a list of companies developing applications for the Palm Pre. Notable developers are Pandora (which we knew), Epocrates, Twitter, MySpace, Facebook (duh) and Sling Media. This makes it that much more difficult to wait for June 6th.

pre-apps-1

Since webOS is HTML and JavaScript based, it was expected that we’d see applications such as Facebook, Twitter, and Pandora. The fact that there is going to be a MySpace client (which challenges the Facebook dominance of webOS and Synergy) is an interesting development. Yet most interesting is the Sling Media Player application expected from Sling Media. This will allow users to watch their television shows on their home TVs/DVRs on the go. Hopefully, it will be allowed over the cellular network. This would certainly stick it to AT&T which recently disallowed the use of the Sling Player on iPhone over anything except WiFi. Epocrates is a fantastic application for medical professionals, and considering their history with Palm, this wasn’t much of a surprise. Mark/Space is also listed, being the developer of the well known desktop application “The Missing Sync”

It’s terribly exciting to see so many powerhouse companies developing applications for webOS. It is the newest and hottest mobile OS (soon to be) on the market, and this list of developers will certainly draw the attention of consumers. The platform makes the Pre the perfect Web 2.0 device, allowing easy integration of Twitter, Pandora, Facebook, Fandango, and numerous other applications into the user’s daily routine. I’ll admit, I was a bit worried about the turnout for quality developers initially, but after seeing this list, I know that the App Catalog will be a huge success.
