A lot of analysts are comparing Apple’s iPhone to the new Palm Pre and seeing just how they believe the two will stack up. From the day that Palm announced the new Palm Pre and webOS at CES, they have been saying that they are going to undercut the iPhone 3G by $1,000 over the course of the two year contract.

Currently you can pick up the iPhone with an unlimited data plan for $30 a month, unlimited minutes for $99 and unlimited text messaging for $20. This adds up to $149 per month or $3,576 over the course of two years. Now if Sprint allows the Palm Pre to use the Simply Everything plan that would cost the user $99 a month or $2,376 over two years. Over the two years outlined in a typical contract Sprint will save you $1,200 which is more than they claim you will save with the Palm Pre.
Given those numbers and the nature of webOS we suspect that Sprint will come up with a Pre specific data plan such as the one AT&T has with the iPhone. Right now Sprint is advertising the Samsung Instinct with savings of $480 annually over similar Verizon Wireless and AT&T plans but still not the savings they are planning to have for the Pre. We still do not know what the Palm Pre Price is going to be. The iPhone is going to have some really stiff competition in the next few months. Do you believe that the Palm Pre will convert even the most loyal Mac fans?
