As we all know, the Palm Pre has been rooted, and a lot of people were hoping to get the Pre on Verizon Wireless. Well, a forum member at Precentral that goes by the name of "cleanser" has done it.

Palm have released webOS v1.0.4 as an over-the-air update, and as you might expect it addresses the most significant security hole discovered by Pre-hackers: side-loading applications via email. In fact, aside from blocking up some security holes, webOS 1.0.4 brings no new applications or features.

Access to the Palm webOS ROM has thrown up its next significant milestone, and users won't even have to have jailbroken their Pre in order to take advantage of it. Three coders - xorg, spotter and simplyflipflops - have found a method whereby emailing a link to an app can allow it to install on even a box-fresh Pre.

Palm have cautioned one group of webOS hackers regarding opening up the Pre to unofficial tethering, not because they don't wish their platform to be modified but as it might anger Sprint.
