Rumors of a Palm smartphone delay are coming out of China, as the Commercial Times reports that Taiwanese ODM device manufacturer Compal Communications are being held up by Qualcomm delays. According to the paper, shipments of two unspecified Palm smartphones will be delayed from mid-year to the end of the year.

Palm released their preliminary Q3 financial report this week, and it only serves to underscore how important the Pre is to the company's survival. Palm expects revenues for last quarter to be between $85 million and $90 million, potentially $70m less than Wall Street expected from them.

Ex-Palm CEO and Handspring co-founder Donna Dubinsky has stepped down from her position on Palm's board of directors, as a response to investor Elevation Partners' plan to nominate their own candidate to the board.
