Finally, some serious industry analysts weigh in on the rumored Dell interest in buying Palm. The Motley Fool posted their “5 Reasons Why Dell Should Buy Palm.” This has been a common thought among business types lately. Dell wanted to get into the Smartphone market to compete with Apple, and it was rebuffed by the carriers. Since Dell is most likely still hurting from this rejection, The Fools are suggesting a burn ointment with Palm-OilS. (Ok, that one was a stretch).

But seriously, they bring up some good points. Dell has no place jumping into the phone market alone, especially because of a sort-of “ME TOO” business decision. Just because you CAN make a smartphone doesn’t mean you should. Palm on the other hand is a veteran player in the market and has the history with users and developers to create devices for Dell that would potentially succeed. Palm could use the boost in capital from the purchase. With all that extra money and the resources of Dell at their disposal, Palm could pump out more webOS based phones, and maybe even netbooks!
As much sense as it would make, I’d have one stipulation if such a purchase were to occur: That the branding stays the same. I don’t want a Dell logo slapped on my Palm Pre 2 or whatever phone comes next. If that were to occur, I’d slap an Apple sticker over that faster than you can say “Wozniak.”
Ok, everyone post your best “DUDE, you’re getting a DELL” jokes in the comments.
