By now, most of you already know about the imminent arrival of the GSM Palm Pre. And there is also a big rumor going on about 02 making the Pre available on October 30th. Now, there’s news from the Wi-Fi Alliance about a Palm Pre successfully passing interoperability testing by them.

If you want proof of that, check this PDF from wi-fi.org. There you are able to see that the unit certified is Model/SKU # P100UNA. This matches up with the Treo Pro GSM version, which is T850UNA; the U is for UMTS, the NA is for North America. Need a little more convincing? Okay, TUVdotCOM Services have a Certificate No. 72090412 – issue back in April 17th of this year – which clears both US and Canadian regulators, with model designation: P100UNA and P100EWW.
To back this up, there are also references in the Bluetooth Gadget Guide with the model numbers P100UNA and P100UEU. The latter been UMTS-European Union, which could indicate that there will be a separate version. Remember that there’s also a UNA and UEU versions of the Treo Pro. So that means there is a version of the Palm Pre GSM that Palm is getting certified for either US, Mexican or Canadian use. There are some of us who think that this phone is first heading to Bell Mobility. Remember that Bell is in the process of switching from a CDMA network to a GSM one. Well, since Sprint is still the exclusive carrier of the Palm Pre in the US for at least the rest of this year, I say only time will tell.
