Web traffic to Palm/Sprint after Pre announcement (and why it might indicate success for Pre)

Seeking Alpha took a look at the web traffic to Palm.com and Sprint.com and tracked the visitation numbers for last few months.  The results are a strong number of visitors (over 400,000) immediately after the announcement of the Pre at CES in January.  The traffic died off over the next few weeks back down to consistent levels of about 100,000, indicating that there is still a strong interest in the Pre.

Seeking Alpha also notes that the traffic to Apple’s website did the same exact thing upon the announcement of the iPhone in 2007.  However, Apple’s number showed a strong consumer interest with their numbers peaking at 600,000 and decreasing over time to 200,000, double that of the Pre.

Is Palm launching their new Pre and webOS into a market saturated with smartphones? Or was Palm able to generate enough interest in the Pre to ensure a successful launch? Hit up the link for the full analysis from Seeking Alpha. It’s worth reading just for an idea of the number game alone.
