Week in Review, Week 13-CTIA next week

We had an exciting week here at MyPre. There were several editorials and interesting analytical pieces we found detailing everything from Palm’s site traffic to Howard Stern getting his hands on a beta device.  The launch of the Pre will be coming soon as Q2 progresses, and hopefully before Apple’s WWDC.

First and foremost, there have been rumors of an April 30th launch date for the Palm Pre, and a price of $299 on a 2-year contract. We can’t confirm these rumors, but that would put the Pre well within the promised Q2 release period.  The rumors came from an individual claiming to have a Palm Pre beta unit, though the validity of his claims is doubtful.

I took a look at Apple’s recently announced WWDC dates, and whether or not that poses a threat to the Pre. Palm should be fine as long as it gets the Pre to its excited customers on or around, oh say, April 30th.

There’s some speculation that Dell is interested in purchasing Palm after Dell’s plans for a smartphone were dashed by carriers.  This would be smart for any computer manufacturer with an interest in producing netbooks, as webOS would make a great operating system for the increasingly popular platform.

I gave my thoughts on Palm’s chances for a successful Pre launch, and given the amount of interest generated by the Pre after the initial announcement at CES in January, we might just see a great launch for the webOS device after all.

Sprint’s customer service has been improving over the last year, despite terrible losses in revenue and subscribers.  Sprint has a powerful tool in making sure that the customers who purchase a Pre walk out knowing how to use it. The Ready Now program will ultimately lead to better satisfaction with the device and service, and will be critical to the Pre’s overall success.

Palm is gearing up to fight Apple and the iPhone App store by attractive developers to make applications for webOS and the Pre.  The idea is anyone who knows HTML and Javascript (so basically anyone who calls themselves a “developer”) can write apps for the Pre.

Howard Stern announced that he is getting his hands on the Palm Pre before the rest of us, after he complained that he didn’t want an iPhone on his radio show because he likes having a physical keyboard, but his beloved Treo needed an upgrade. A caller notified him of the Pre, and Stern’s celebrity status earned him a chance to try out the Pre.

And finally, avid Palm Pre fans, we asked you what questions you wanted us to ask Palm and Sprint at the CTIA Wireless convention in Las Vegas next week, because My Pre is going to be there to get our hands on the Pre and film it in all its pebble shaped glory.  Got a question? Head over and post it in the comments! We’ll also be bringing other technology related news to Slash Gear, including news from HTC, Samsung, T-Mobile, Verizon, and more!
